Ecologically grown tomato seeds for the hobby gardener

All seed plants are grown outside in Sweden zone 3 (US zone 5)

1 Packet tomato seeds: 15:- Swedish Kronor See order info

1 packet includes enough seeds for 25 tomato plants, unless otherwise noted . Plant that gives very little seeds includes enough seeds for 15 tomato plants.

All tomato seeds are organically grown in healthy soil with no use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. The seed are of the best quality, selected by hand from the second truss of minimum 5 plants of each variety. Only fully mature disease free tomatoes have been used for seed. The seeds are fermented to avoid any disease that could be spread with the seeds. Note I have a limited quantity of tomato seeds in stock; choose an alternative sort with your order.

Numbers of days are counted from transplant of 6-9 weeks old plants until it’s time to start harvest. I never cut the top of the plants and the height are from plants that have grown freely and been properly prune. The length of leafs is a finger point of how close you can plant the tomatoes in a row, if the leafs are 30 cm you could plant the tomatoes with 30 cm between the plants in a row, if you cut of all suckers properly. The information height, length and number of days are only for plants that are grown outside in healthy good soil.

If you grow tomatoes in a greenhouse the result will be different, the temperature are higher day/night, the plant get more water, fertilizer etc, and the tomatoes usually have less taste. A tomato strain that grow to 140 cm outdoors could in a greenhouse grow over 200 cm. Big beef tomatoes grow faster in a greenhouse and mostly have another shape than tomatoes grown outside. The colour on dark (black) tomatoes usually gets a lighter colour in a greenhouse; they got darker and have more taste if they are grown outside. If you sit behind a window you probably not get so much colour from the sun.

The growing result depends of which growing technique you use. All information of each plant is how they develops for me, grown outside in Sweden in zone 3 (ca USDA zone 5).

Good plant that doesn’t grow so big, ca 140 cm high with a strong steady stem, ca 32 cm long and 30 cm wide leafs. Big long trusses with 12-17 tomatoes, higher up on the plant the trusses grow close to the stem with 3-6 tomatoes, some trusses grows on (cut). The tomatoes are very meaty with little seeds; with a little fantasy the flesh almost look like an ananas. The tomatoes have a mild full-bodied good taste with little acid and a sweet little fruity smell. Start harvest when the tomatoes beginning to have red stripes. The flesh is crispy and good to eat, fully mature the flesh are softer and little mealy. Try to serve this tomato in slices with little sea salt and a fruity olive oil. Soldout

Speckled (Striped) Roman

Seed to ca 15 plants

Big elongated little beefy paste tomatoes with a light orange/red nice colour with yellow stripes, when they mature the colour get darker and darker and fully mature the colour is dark red/orange with little stripes. The plant doesn’t grow so big, ca 120-130 cm high with strong 45-50 cm long and 35 cm wide leafs, and some of them are quite thinly. Tomatoes in trusses with 7 on each with a fresh good taste, very meaty and juicy tomatoes that are nicely coloured right throw. This plant grows well in cool weather, but is little late; if you grow this strain as a bush, the harvest won’t be big. This should be a stable cross of Banana Legs and Antique Roman developed by John Swensson, the tomato is named to Speckled Roman but is sold as Striped or Speckled Roman but it is the same strain. Maybe Striped Roman is a more proper name for this strain.

Tonnelet

A little unusual Belgian plant with a tiny thin ca 160 cm high stem, thin 25-30 cm long leafs on a very healthy plant. Nice striped paste tomatoes in trusses with 6-7 on each, meaty tomatoes with a different creamy texture, mild good taste. The name probably came from the shape of the tomato that looks like an antique vase. Created 1990 by Luc Fichot from Belgium.
